Butler YMCA Sprint Triathlon

One of my brothers texted to let us know he was going to do this Tri… so my sister and I quickly signed up too!  I love doing races especially with family and friends! IMG_9681.JPG

I get super excited that this race is an open water swim (even if it is only 400 meters)!  The fact that it is open water seems exciting, even though I had a hard time getting into a good rhythm.  My swim was over in 6:21 (too short!) 🙂  IMG_9689.JPG

Then the bike was VERY hilly!  I feel that I need to use my brakes on the downhills more then most racers do 😉 but the 7 miles went by really fast!  My bike time was 29:52.IMG_9703.JPG

Before I knew it… I was running my bike back to the transition area!  IMG_9732.JPG

I took a Huma gel and a quick drink (while running) to give me some energy for the 3.2 mile run!  IMG_9734.JPG

I felt (mostly) great on the run!  My run time was 23:47.  IMG_9760.JPG

My total time was 1:02:27.  This was almost my exact same time as last year!
FullSizeRender.jpg

It actually felt like we were racing together because my sister and I were in the 2nd heat and my brother was in the 4th heat.  He caught me and passed me halfway through the run!     IMG_9776.JPG

They both got 2nd place overall and I got first in my age group!  FullSizeRender-1.jpg

I’m thankful for these goofballs too!  They were able to cheer me on, take lots of pictures, AND fight with sticks! 🙂  IMG_1335.JPG

Then we spent the rest of the afternoon swimming and playing!  It was a great day!   FullSizeRender-2.jpg

Weekly Recap #7 & #8 Falling and Favorites

There is always a first for everything…  two days before Christmas I fell hard!  IMG_6860.JPGObviously I had to snap chat to get some sympathy 🙂  I ended up with a scrapes and bruises on my hand and knee… plus holes in my leggings and jacket!  A few days earlier I had a stomach bug and did not eat much… so I’m thinking I may have still been weak.

I took Christmas Eve and Christmas super easy running and super fun party wise!  We celebrated my Christmas Eve baby all morning… IMG_6993.JPG

and then a lot of my family and friends joined us for the rest of the day!  IMG_7026.JPG

We had an amazing Christmas day plus many more celebrations for a few days after!IMG_7114.JPG

And I am back to running with just some bruises and scrapes.  I love this time of year because it is usually easier for me to fit in more running!  We had a great sister run with some of our new Christmas gear…   IMG_7231.JPG

and I finished out the year strong with 10 tempo miles too!  Which gave me a total of 1,134 miles for the year!   FullSizeRender.jpg

Weekly Recap #3 & 3 Things You Can’t Forget This Thanksgiving!

This week had some busy, crazy, and stressful times… but when isn’t life stressful with a 2, 4, and 6 year old?!IMG_4510.jpeg

I have been working towards increasing my speed as well as getting stronger. DVD workouts are great when I have kids at home and want a great total body workout. I am currently following the Hammer and Chisel Workout Program and love it! Remember when I did THIS PROGRAM last Fall while running?! Right now I am taking more days “off” than the calendar says but I add in running (even in the cold and SNOW)!IMG_6335.JPG
Winter is pretty much HERE and while I will run outside most days… sometimes it is better to NOT go out in below freezing temperatures or ice! The kiddos sure are excited though and talk/think about snow all the time! Denny’s snowy home picture was just chosen to be featured at our school districts administration building! IMG_6208.JPG

I am getting pretty excited to run a 5k fast!  A race this Thanksgiving is just what I need to get motivated to increase my speed. IMG_6316.JPG

I think that one of the most common misconceptions about getting in shape or improving yourself is that you have to eat less. I eat A LOT and pretty much all day! The key is filling my body with healthy foods. I definitely have to work to eat more veggies and protein (the carbs and fruit are easy for me). Shakeology makes it super easy (because it is delicious and packed with the good stuff) to get my protein and vegetable requirement. Plus, I’m not great at taking time to drink enough water each day (I’m working on it!) so I always make my Shakeology with water to get a little extra in!IMG_6255.JPGAnd my TOP 3 things that you CANNOT forget this Thanksgiving Day….  FAMILY, A WORKOUT, & CHESTNUTS!  My advice is to get your workout in early, visit with family and then enjoy good food like chestnuts! 🙂  If you aren’t sure about chestnuts… TRY THEM!  They are delicious in stuffing but I also love them plain!  ches.jpg

Here’s what my week looked like:

Monday: Hammer & Chisel DVD- Chisel Endurance & Easy Run- 2.5 miles.

Tuesday: Hammer & Chisel DVD- Total Body Hammer & Easy Run- 5 miles.

Wednesday: Rest Day

Thursday: Hammer & Chisel DVD- Chisel Cardio.

Friday: Stroller Run- 5 miles.

Saturday: Tempo Run- 7 miles at 7:54 average pace.

Sunday: Hammer & Chisel DVD- Max Hammer Strength and Easy Run- 3 miles.

Have a happy Thanksgiving week!

If you are interested in finding out a little more about Shakeology or joining my upcoming accountability group fill out a few questions below!

Have you ever used any Beachbody workout programs and or Shakeology?(required)

Hammer and Chisel

I am beyond excited about this program!  Luckily, Nate’s birthday is 11 days after it comes out (perfect timing for the gift he really wants AND I want)!!!  You may have heard me say kid’s birthdays are really about the mom… well, aren’t husband’s birthdays really about the wife?! 😉  HAHA!  So here is everything WE get:

gift.png

This program has a detailed nutrition plan but unlike the 21 Day Fix, it is made to modify whether you want to build muscle, maintain, or lose weight.

I will be posting weekly about how I’m doing with the program.  I will also continue to run (which is not necessary for the program), but how could I not run?!  I have been feeling SO great running!  I know I will be more tired/sore while doing the Hammer and Chisel workouts, but running (like all working out) makes me feel better and makes me a better mom, wife, and person!  After all, I am always trying to improve!

Here is my meal plan for week 1:  Screen Shot 2015-12-05 at 9.39.58 PM.pngThese are all favorite foods of mine plus a few new recipes I got from the Hammer and Chisel nutrition guide!  I will posting a few of these recipes soon!
